Population, Health and Environment

Africa’s population, its health and wellbeing require development approach that recognizes the interconnectedness between people, their health and their environment supported by a multi-sector collaboration and coordination. Health and wellbeing

Most African governments have weak health care systems largely due to minimal expenditure on health and lack of focus on specific needs for different groups of people. Consequently, the SDG goal 3 that seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all stages may remain unattainable by most governments by Africa 2030. Weak health care systems in Africa may not cope with emerging epidemics such as COVID19, non-communicable diseases and many others. Hence, there may not be significant progress in the health sector. PSDI’s focuses on improving capacity and technical assistance in implementing health policies and programs that respond to specific needs of individual.

As an institute, we exist to:

  • Support development project designers integrate people’s health wellbeing and their environment for sustainable social development.
  • Family planning and/or reproductive health (FP/RH)
  • Poverty, health equity, and connections with reproductive health.
  • Gender issues, specifically gender-based violence (GBV), early marriage, and male engagement in family planning.
  • Population, health, and environment interrelations
